Dr. L. Prabhu is Vice Principal (Administration) and Professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is associated with AVIT since 2001, serving in various academic and administrative roles. He played a vital role in establishing Institution Innovation Council (IIC – AVIT) and currently he is the President for the vibrant IIC. He initiated sumptuous activities, creating a strong Innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem at AVIT. He is also instrumental in promoting Entrepreneurship Skills amongst the students by organising various programmes through EDII. MSME Business Incubation Centre at AVIT was established with his efforts and under his able guidance & mentorship, two ideas were sanctioned with grant in MSME hackathon. He is a recognized IIC-Advanced Innovation Ambassador, Certified Mentor for AICTE-NITTTR, National Initiative for Teacher Training Programme and UHV mentor.
He has organized several National and International conferences, workshops, Faculty Development Programmes, Guest lectures and seminars for the students and faculty members. He is the member in Board of Studies, VMRF-DU and actively involved in framing the Regulations and Curriculum. He is an active member in Professional society’s viz. ISTE, IFERP and ENFUSE. He has established BOSCH Automotive (Germany) Training Centre at AVIT and this centre provides ample industry level training and skills for students. In the capacity of PMKVY 4.0 SPOC, he is coordinating 5 job role courses at AVIT.

Qualification and Research Interests

He is a Mechanical Engineer and mastered in Computer Aided Design. He has completed his Ph.D. in Material Joining Technique-Friction Stir Welding. His areas of research interests are Friction stir welding, Alternative Fuels, Heat Exchangers and Material Science. He was instrumental in establishing 10m Urban Wind Monitoring Station Funded by NIWE worth Rs.7,50,000 at Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology, Paiyanoor- Chennai.He has published 55 Articles in SCIE/Scopus/ WoS Journal, awarded with 7 patent grant and also reviewer in various leading Journals/Conferences. Under his able guidance and mentorship, 155 ideas and 74 prototypes were submitted in YUKTI portal by students, faculty and Alumni. Also Five Technology Transfer has been done through IIC.

Awards and Recognitions

He was awarded as the best HoD of the Year Award 2021 by Institute of Scholars (InSc.) for his outstanding contribution in the department. He is a recognized IIC-Advanced Innovation Ambassador, Certified Mentor for AICTE-NITTTR National Initiative for Teacher Training Programme and UHV mentor. He has been recognised as NPTEL Discipline Star and also received Mentor Certificate in recognition as mentor for the NPTEL. He has been selected as a subject expert under AICTE-Student Learning Assessment Preparation (SLAP) scheme. He served as panel member in shortlisting the ideas submitted in MSME Hackathon. He has also served as an evaluator for Toycathon, YUKTI Innovative idea/prototype and smart India Hackathons organised by Government of India.
