    MADRAS METALLURGICAL SOCIETY

    The Madras Metallurgical Society is a statewide society of metallurgists and material science professionals in vogue for the last 25 years.

    Madras Metallurgical Society (MMS) is a non-profitable professional society for the aspirants of material science and metallurgy. MMS has spread its technical hand to academic institutions to incorporate the significance of Engineering Materials to the young student community. The institution is proud to boast of its very first student chapter established in 2009. The objective of this student chapter is to impart and inculcate the significance of Material Science & Metallurgy in the different streams of Mechanical Engineering amongst the student community.

    he student chapter has an excellent strength of about 400 members. One of our faculty members Mr. N. Lakshminarayanan is the Governing President of MMS Student Chapter and also the Joint Secretary of the Society. Another faculty Member Mr. J. Senthil is the Governing Secretary of the MMS Student Chapter and also a member of the Executive Council of the Society.

    The student chapter has been conducting technical lectures and inter-collegiate technical competitions and arranges in-plant training to students. The MMS Student Chapter has also been offered projects from industries. Apart from the activities at the campus, the members also participate actively in the expert lectures, training courses and workshops organized by the society. The MMS Chapter sponsors its students and faculty members to participate in workshops and courses organized by the society from time to time. Some worth mentionable workshops are Heat Treatment, Nano-materials, Composite materials and their Applications and Metallurgy for Non-metallurgists.

    IEEE‐ POWER & ENERGY SOCIETY

    The IEEE Power & Energy Society is a worldwide, non‐profit association of more than 24,000 individuals engaged in the electric power energy industry.

    Our mission is to be the leading provider of scientific information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society and the preferred professional development source for our members.

    The PES members are involved in the planning, research, development, construction, installation and operation of equipment and systems for the safe, reliable and economic generation, transmission, distribution, measurement and control of electric energy. AVIT has an IEEE ‐ PES Student Chapter with a couple of faculty and student members of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering branches. Dr. Prof. V. Ramakrishnan, Dean, Energy, is the IEEE ‐ PES Student Counselor. The chapter is very active and conducts an ample number of regular programs benefiting the member community.

    The members also take part in the PES technical lectures conducted by the PES in other institutions. The AVIT IEEE ‐ PES chapter recently organized a technical seminar on "Green Power" addressed by Mr. K. V. Rupchand, Chairman, IEEE – PES Madras Section. All the IEEE members participated in the lecture.

    The IEEE Communications Society founded in 1952 is the world's leading membership organization for communications professionals.

    IEEE is the world's largest professional association providing access to the industry's most essential technical information, networking opportunities, career development tools and many other exclusive benefits to its members.

    Aarupadai Institute of Technology, Vinayaka Missions University was the first institution to have a student branch chapter of the IEEE Communications Society. The branch was inaugurated on 13th April, 2007 at the college campus in Paiyanoor. The society chapter provides the students with a platform for exhibiting and honing their talents. The chapter organizes technical lectures in the current trends in Communication Engineering for the benefit of the students.

    IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter

    The IEEE Computer Society is the world's leading organization of computing professionals.

    Founded in 1946 and the largest of the 38 societies of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the CS is dedicated to advancing the theory and application of computer and information-processing technology. The IEEE Computer Society publishes a variety of journals and technical magazines covering various technical topics in information technology. The IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter was inaugurated in Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology in the year 2007.

    It has been actively organizing several professional activities such as national conferences, state-of-art seminars, Oracle Certified Training, awareness programmes for rural students, etc., for the past 3 years, to promote the technical and leadership qualities of our student community. This chapter also trains the students to participate in various contests like the national level symposium, national project contest and national conferences.

    The IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter also invites renowned experts from national and international institutions/organizations for guest lectures on latest topics and in upcoming fields. An eminent professor Dr. Prabahar Metati, Department of Computer Science and Engg, Wright State University, USA, was invited to present a special lecture on "Personal Security and Privacy on the Web". This was an endeavour to keep students abreast of the advancements in technology.

    The Department of Information Technology and IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter organized the first National Conference on Information and Software Engineering – IETE Tech Review, IETE Journal of Education, IETE Newsletter (one copy in each case),conference proceedings, etc.

    • Regular interaction with IETE centres in the region and support from IETE corporate members, R&D laboratories, industries, etc in the technical programmes of the forum.
    • Possibility of setting up an Electronics Hobby Centre in the institution with industry support.
    • Improvement in the quality of students obtaining the degree/ diploma awards and enhancement in their employment potential.
    • To organize the activities of ISF and / or with the IETE Local / Sub‐Centre, prizes for quiz and paper reading competitions, organizing inter‐college functions at the level of Local Centres, visits to various engineering colleges/ institutions and organizing joint activities.
    • An annual function in each IETE Students' Forum is to be organized, for which a special grant could be considered.
    • In addition, annual quiz and essay competition, national or zonal technical paper contest for the students to be organized at the time of the Mid‐term Symposium and Annual Technical Convention in whichever centre the functions are organized.
    • Students will be given a reduction in the amount paid at the time of ISF for becoming an Associate Member of IETE.

    The AVIT CSI Student Branch Chapter has more than 125 members. The aim of the CSI Chapter is to facilitate research, knowledge sharing, learning and career enhancement for all categories of IT professionals. This chapter organized many seminars, workshops and conferences in different fields.
